I have been invited to present a six day solo exhibition highlighting my signature designs in nuno felt fabrics for interiors and accessories. On show will be wall art, throws, scarves, accessories and statement piece jewellery. A great opportunity to purchase unique gifts or just treat yourself!

Commissions happily accepted in time for the Christmas season.

This year marks the 70th Maker Member annual show and to celebrate, selected work from Maker Members showcase the very best of their work made in the last 2 years.

Liz is delighted to be showing her new work "St Ives" a textile reflecting the colours and patterns of the Cornish landscape, using a combination of nuno felt and three dimensional hand patterning techniques.

Telling the Story of Wool in Somerset

As part of this year’s Somerset Art Weeks Festival Somerset Rural Life Museum will be celebrating one of the county’s most sustainable natural products. ‘Spinning a Yarn’ is a partnership project with Somerset Art Works to tell the story of wool in Somerset. Through art installations, an exhibition, workshops, talks and family activities visitors can discover more about the history and uses of this versatile material. 

Liz is one of the featured artists telling her story of working with wool in Trevor Pitt's film 'Somerset Yarning'. The film will be screened on a loop in the Museum's 14th century Abbey Barn throughout the exhibition.

In the Mapstone Gallery Liz's couture work will be on show alongside contemporary makers working with wool.  British wool plays a significant role in Liz's designs. Inspired by the textures and colours of this sustainable and beautiful material Liz showcases the diversity and quality of these wools. 

12th October at 2pm

Liz will give an illustrated presentation at The Rural Life Museum, Glastonbury, talking about the commissions and projects she has been involved with throughout her felt making career.

Her talk is one of the many activities hosted by the museum for Spinning a Yarn where visitors can discover more about the history and uses of wool; this versatile and sustainable material.

MAKE Southwest selects best work from Maker Members for the annual summer show.

Liz is delighted to be selected for the prestigious annual show and presents a trio of Origami Day Bags.

The concept in making the origami bags was to up-cycle left over fabric pieces from her couture collections. The hand pleated nuno felt is costly to produce having many processes. The origami design is based on one of her couture dress patterns. 

Liz will be teaching a felt workshop in September at MAKE Southwest's workshop studio.

3rd - 24th February 2024

A curated collection of work by MAKE Southwest’s printmakers, photographers and mixed media artist Maker Members.

Photography is an important contribution to my design process. Whilst teaching in southern France I became interested in the advertising columns I saw in Toulouse. In Paris they are an iconic feature of the city’s landscape known as Colonne Morris. In Toulouse these elegant structures often display multiple layers of posters torn and shredded to reveal fascinating glimpses of events long gone. I took many photos. From these I created a digital template to print.

The new scarf collection is exhibited at the Print Room. Each scarf is individually created using part of the printed design. The fabric is a beautiful cashmere and silk weave that I sometimes use for nuno scarves.  

Another use of print on my hand felted cloth uses impressions of my hand pleated designs that are mounted on tiles with laser cut botanical cut outs. These square wall tiles are shown in the Print Room along with the scarves.

A Maker Member exhibition on the theme of Winter celebrations in the Riverside Gallery

Christmas and winter is a time to slow down, to gather and tell stories, eat, drink and celebrate.

To complement the annual Christmas show Under the Tree Liz is delighted to be part of the curated Maker Member display in the Riverside Gallery. She will exhibit new work of richly textured nuno felt table mats and pleated felt acoustic tiles.

A variety of craft disciplines, from ceramics and print, to jewellery and textiles, will adorn the space in a celebration of winter gatherings in the home to make perfect gifts for the Christmas season.

Liz is pleased to have been invited to contribute to the collection of works presented and re-imagined by Heritage Courtyard Gallery's talented SOMERSET ARTISTS AND MAKERS in an array of media including ceramics, textiles, paintings and sculptural forms.

Everything in Transform, will be created with the idea that the viewer will see the object in a totally new way. Presented and re-imagined in an array of materials including fabulous ceramics which can be used and re-used, transformed from their clay beginnings through the magical firing process.

You are welcome to join the artists at the gallery for refreshments on the opening day, Saturday 15th April between 11am and 2pm.

Liz is excited to be showing her signature accessories at the Royal Academy of Art shop as part of the exhibition: Whistler's Woman in White: Joanna Hiffernan. Liz was commissioned to reflect the subtle colours and tones in the paintings whilst working towards a 'more conceptual and crafted' look.

The exhibition explores Whistler's close professional and personal relationship with Hiffernan: her life and role as a friend, model, lover and collaborator.

Liz will not have a stall at the market but she is delighted to have a collection of her scarves and jewellery selected for sale in the new Hestercombe Craft Gallery shop.

The best work by Devon Guild of Craftsmen Makers

 We built a pond in our garden some 20 years ago. The small lily plant has since multiplied and each year gives us spectacular blooms. I have captured the transitory beauty on camera many times.

During the second national lockdown I searched for creative inspiration amongst my photo albums. One lily photo caught my eye. I have often thought to explore design opportunity on the computer and set about pixelating the lily image. One thing lead to another.

The design was enlarged and printed on sheets of A4 paper which I joined to create a cartoon from which to work, as would a tapestry weaver.

I have a stash of unused hand dyed felt, some of which has blotchy irregular surface colouration. Perfect for cutting into small squares and using to ‘paint’ a canvas. The Lockdown Lily collection was born.

The collection comprises three individual panels each 40cm x 40cm made up of 1.5cm squares and irregular blocks of hand cut felt pieces.

The project has been a truly all consuming lockdown activity!

Malgré le report de la 7ème édition des Journées Européennes du feutre à 2023, c’est avec bonheur que nous ouvrons donc notre saison 2021 avec cette exposition de grands formats feutrés d’artistes textiles européens. Reconnu artisanat d’art en 2016, le feutre ainsi déployé en tentures et tapis fait le lien avec la tapisserie de basse-lice, art emblématique du territoire sud-creusois.

Étoffe intissée constituée de fibres amalgamées entre elles, le feutre se révèle protéiforme et enchanteur. Ses qualités et son aspect varient en fonction du type de laine utilisé, de la technique employée, des autres matières ajoutées, de l’épaisseur et enfin du degré de feutrage des fibres.
Venez découvrir toute la diversité, l’inventivité et le charme des créations feutrées de notre temps.

As part of this event, an exhibition presenting the best of the current felted creation, will be shown in the 15th century church of Notre-Dame-du-château.

An exhibition featuring new work by members of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen.

Every year since the Devon Guild of Craftsmen began there has been a Members’ summer exhibition. It is a chance for them to celebrate their craft knowledge and experience by creating inspirational pieces for our visitors to see and buy. Liz responded to the call with the Boro Boro Kimono, a bespoke couture garment in her hand pleated nuno felt fabric, inspired by her travels in Japan.
