West Yeo Organic Farm
The West Yeo Flock of rare breed coloured sheep produces a fine quality wool of mixed, natural colours. Once a year in late Spring the sheep are sheared and the fleeces are sent to a privately owned mill in Cornwall to be spun into yarn for knitting and weaving. Coloured sheep skins are also produced.
West Yeo is one of the very few producers of certified Organic Sheep Skins, wool yarn and wool products. The ewes are Wensleydale x Leicester Longwool. A Blue Texel ram is used; this gives an airbrushed effect to the sheepskins.
As well as a passion for farming, Kate also has a love for textiles and design. She has a Ceramics Degree and has taught art and textiles for 25 years. Kate creates unique designs for knitted garments such as men's and ladies jumpers which are made to measure for each customer. She also designs a range of woven wool products such as blankets, bed covers and throws, all using the natural colouring of her organic wool. Wool products, including knitting yarns, can be purchased direct from Kate Palmer at West Yeo Farm.
