Contemporary Felt
using Locally Sourced Wool

home

On the Map was a two-year touring exhibition of selected work by members of the International Feltmakers Association celebrating wool from many regions throughout the world.

 The exhibition brief challenged members to use locally produced wool in their works and in doing so create an awareness of the many sheep breeds and the potential their wool has for the feltmaker.

The diversity of exhibits in On the Map was visually rich and rewarding, providing the visitor with an exceptional insight into a contemporary interpretation of an ancient craft. The exhibition contained the work of selected makers from 12 countries using wool from more than 40 different sheep breeds. The monumental scale at which this international challenge was addressed is testimony to the innovative and resourceful art of the feltmaker. Let us hope the rewards of such an initiative will embrace a greater knowledge and commitment to our heritage of wool and its long-term future.

 The IFA is pleased to acknowledge substantial support and funding for On the Map from Arts Council England.
